Inventing Polonia: notions of Polish American identity, 1870-1990
Article Abstract:
Polonia or the imagined group of Polish-speaking immigrants in the US can best be understood by keeping in mind that ethnicity is continually being invented and re-invented. As it is, Polish American identity can be described in terms of continuing competition and negotiation among Polish immigrants with varying experiences in Europe and the US. The process described has led to five periods when new notions of Polish American ethnicity were introduced.

Social corruption and the subversion of the American Success Story in 'Arthur Mervyn.'
Article Abstract:
Charles Brockden Brown's novel 'Arthur Mervyn; or, Memoirs of the Year 1793' is critiqued. The analysis tries to uncover the consequences of Brown's improvisation in the novel in which there is a sudden shift in characterization, point of view and authorial intent from part one to part two. Rather than analyzing the book into parts and segments, the criticism uses a holistic approach by focusing on the author's use of characterization.
