Republican Congressman Bill Archer's move to revive fast-track legislation for NAFTA gives the US the chance it missed when the Clinton Administration reneged on its pledge to Chile to become the prime mover in international free trade. This bill authorizes the president to directly negotiate foreign trade.

Here's why Chile will be our next trade partner

Chile looks set to become the next country to sign a free trade pact with the US. Unlike Mexico, however, Chile offers investors and exporters a highly stable economy with one of Latin America's highest growth rates. Chile also has a stable currency, a modest trade deficit and large currency reserves.
