SVREP's silver shining

Antonio Gonzalez, president of the nonpartisan, grass-roots Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP), said at the association's 25th anniversary conference that the Hispanic vote is needed to win an election in the United States. The SVREP can claim much of the responsibility for this due to its efforts in encouraging Hispanic participation in the political process of the U.S.

Amendments to California's Proposition 187 have been proposed which would require public agencies to verify the immigrant status of any person applying for welfare, school admission, or any benefits. In addition public funds would be used in response to lawsuits challenging decisions by state voters.
