Adolescents' perceptions of outpatient mental health services
Article Abstract:
A study of adolescents' perceptions of goals, frustrations, expectations, and benefits of mental health services received reveals their satisfaction with these services. Perceived choice in seeking services, treatment site, race, and gender are unrelated to satisfaction level. Counseling services are most often sought for family and school problems, depression, suicide attempts, and sexual abuse. Increasing self-esteem is seen as the priority goal of counseling. Personal growth, improved personal relations with staff, and problem solving are perceived to be the most beneficial aspects.

Child mental health professionals: the missing link in child mental health reform
Article Abstract:
The availability of child psychiatric services is an important social issue since at least 12% of Americans aged 18 and below have a diagnosable mental disorder that needs treatment. Unfortunately, supply of these services has not kept up with demand. However, two developments in the 1980s have helped push child mental health care in the right direction. These are the explosion of interest in child mental disorders and the change in the way child psychiatric services are conceptualized and organized.

The siblings of individuals with mental retardation: a quantitative integration of the literature
Article Abstract:
