A jaw-cancer survivor describes how she became self-confident after she decided to avoid looking in mirrors. Reconstructive surgery improved her appearance, but she had already developed her self-confidence before the surgery. She associates with people who accept her as she is.

The problem with polls

Public opinion polls allegedly represent the majority public opinion, but the results are difficult to assess when two polls produce opposite results or when few people agree with the opinions stated in the news. Poll results should not be presented as social truths.
