Family background and early life course transitions in Kinshasa
Article Abstract:
The limited access to contraceptive devices in Kinshasa makes the improvement in family background environment more important to bring about attitudinal changes toward marital, sexual and reproductive life. Greater parental education plays a key role in delaying the timing of the first marriage, first sex and first birth. Findings show that a daughter's sexual life is least affected by her father's characteristics. Death of both parents by the age of 15 results in early sex and childbirth, while the mother's demise delays the first sex and marriage transitions.
