An increasing number of adverse side-effects from food-drug interactions are being discovered. For example, grapefruit juice in now known to neutralize allergy drugs and estrogen therapies. Tips on how consumers how patients can work with their doctors and pharmacists to avoid known interaction hazards are provided.

Combinations of certain foods and drugs can cause adverse side effects. Some drugs become ineffective or more powerful if they are combined with certain foods. Grapefruit juice, for instance, can create the effects of an overdose in people who take calcium channel blockers.
