Let it flow: Carl Whitaker's philosophy of becoming
Article Abstract:
Family therapist Carl Whitaker died at age 83 on April 21, 1995, at his home in Nashotah, WI. He will be remembered both as a great man and a good teacher whose ideas will continue to be valued and appreciated by his colleagues, his admirers and even his critics. He was a pioneer in family therapy who not only strove to change the professional detachment that characterized the practice of psychotherapy but also introduced creative methods of helping families.

Carl Whitaker: in memoriam
Article Abstract:
Carl Whitaker is considered a professional in the discipline of family therapy to which he was very much dedicated. He was devoted to his family and was also deeply concerned about the lives of his patients. Whitaker based individuation and joining on the mother-child relationship. He also trained in play therapy which he believed was the remedy for aloneness. He has also made important contributions to the area of supervision and training.
