Morality and multiplicity: perspectives on the treatment of violence in intimate life
Article Abstract:
The Ackerman Institute has sponsored the Gender and Violence Project for 12 years. Working within a feminist-informed, conjoint framework, researchers at the Institute have been examining various approaches for conceptualizing and treating domestic violence. Their intention is to create a transitional space between private and public where victims of violence and victimization can narrate their stories and undergo treatment. By collating the narratives of various women who have suffered, the Institute hopes to document a personalized history of the politics and cost of intimate violence.

Sex role beliefs, control, and social isolation of battered women
Article Abstract:
A study of abused women as compared with non-abused women indicated differences in gender role, self-determination and decision-making. Women in abusive marriages were found to exhibit more feminine characteristics such as passivity and dependency in their gender role than non-abused women who were found to exhibit masculine or androgynous characteristics. Abused women also expressed the desire to have more control in their lives. However, they tended to accept events in their lives and did not initiate action, adapting themselves well to situations.
