Parents should be patient when teaching kids to read and try means to develop a child's interest in reading. Parents should provide reinforcement and constant guidance so that children are encouraged to learn and not be shy of their developmental abilities or the lack of it.

Clinging in children can be a normal phase, an innate behavior, a reaction to traumatic change or assumption of the parents' apprehension. Parents should be supportive but firm about separation, and offer reassurance when the child does manage to make the break.
