Sibling resemblance in behavioral and cognitive outcomes: the role of father presence

Article Abstract:

The effects of father presence on behavioral and cognitive outcomes for children were investigated by considering data from the matched mother-child file in the National Longitudinal Study of Youth. Findings revealed that children raised in one-parent families have more behavioral problems and inferior mathematics and reading capability compared to children from two-parent families. Moreover, the discrepancy in reading ability increases over time.
