Patriarchal terrorism and common couple violence: two forms of violence against women
Article Abstract:
Two forms of domestic violence against women are identified. These are common couple violence and patriarchal terrorism. Common couple violence is characterized by occasional acts of violence committed by either husbands or wives. Patriarchal violence, on the other hand, is defined as systematic male violence. There is a need to differentiate between these two kinds of violence so that public policies, educational programs, intervention strategies and theories of interpersonal violence could be properly formulated and implemented.
