Children should be prepared before they are left home alone. Parents should look for signs that the child is ready. These include not being easily frightened, and understanding responsibility. Children must be taught to answer the telephone, use emergency procedures, and recognize dangers.

Lack of bladder control is an embarrassing problem for pregnant women. To alleviate incontinence, pregnant women can try pelvic-floor exercises, commonly referred to as Kegels. The use of vaginal cones is helpfull as well. Medication and surgery might be needed in some cases.
