Stress in mothers with intellectual disabilities
Article Abstract:
The potential of stress in parents with low intelligence quotient in contributing to parenting problems were explored in a sample of 82 mothers using the Parenting Stress Index. High levels of stress experienced by parents were related to child characteristics and other life experiences. According to the age of their children, mothers with school-age children reported higher stress than those of preschool children and toddlers. Results also showed that living conditions and child age were important predictors of parenting stress.
