The determinants of fathering during the child's second and third years of life: a developmental analysis
Article Abstract:
A study reveals the significance of the fathers personality and attitudes on levels and patterns of fathering during toddlerhood. Other determinants of fathering during the early years of a child's life are the social-contextual factors and the socioeconomic status of the family. However, fathering is least influenced by the characteristics of the child. The analysis used the hierarchical linear modelling procedures and the results satisfy Belsky's model of the determinants of parenting. The observations were made at four stages of the child's life, namely, 15, 21, 27, and 33 months.

Fathering and acculturation: immigrant Indian families with young children
Article Abstract:
Observation of Indian immigrant families in Pennsylvania revealed that the most acculturated fathers were the most involved with their children and the least acculturated were the least involved. Researchers observed 40 two-parent Indian families in their homes, and classified fathers into engaged, caretaker or disengaged groups. Engaged fathers were at least twice as involved in all aspects of fathering as the caretaker fathers. These two groups were more acculturated to the US than the disengaged group, as partly indicated by their involvement in fathering.
