The effects of childhood family structure on leaving and returning home
Article Abstract:
The influence of childhood family structure on the decisions of young people to leave or return home was investigated. Retrospective data from the National Survey of Families and Households were used to examine the interrelationships among family experiences, the likelihood of leaving home at an early age, given routes such as schooling, marriage and cohabitation and returning home. Empirical results showed that growing up in any alternative family structure reduces the probability of leaving and returning home but increases the probability of leaving home early.

Family type and depression in pregnancy: factors mediating risk in a community sample
Article Abstract:
The role of family type in the onset of severe depression among pregnant women from single-parent and biological families as well as stepfamilies was investigated. Data from a community sample of 13,088 pregnant women in the UK were analyzed to examine family-type differences in several risk factors. Empirical results showed that women from single-parent families were more likely to report depression than women from biological families. Increased levels of depression were partly attributed to risks in the social environment as well as socioeconomic risks.
