The story of Melissa Guay and her three children who were forced to live in a homeless shelter after her marriage started falling apart is presented. Homeless families, made up mostly of single women and their children, are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in the 1990s.

Who benefits from the adoption tax credit?

The Adoption Promotion and Stability Act reduces the average cost of adopting a healthy infant in the US by half by providing tax credits of up to $6,000. The law acknowledges that adoptive families deserve the same level of support as traditional families.

Surfing for a baby

The use of the internet to search and advertise for a baby to adopt is discussed. The experience of one US couple who successfully found and adopted a baby in this way is recalled and the legal pitfalls and risks of the system are explained.
