How do you like your stake?
Article Abstract:
The globalization of capital markets has made it imperative for continental Europe to shift from stakeholder to shareholder capitalism, such as that practiced in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Under shareholder capitalism, the shareholder is the dominant stakeholder, in contrast to stakeholder capitalism where each stakeholder provides input for a share of cashflow. However, tradition and culture serve as hindrances in the adoption of shareholder capitalism, since the basic conditions of efficient markets, such as transparency and liquidity, are unfamiliar in some parts of Europe.
