Bittersweet memories
Article Abstract:
Greg Upton was 39 when he died of leukemia in 1997, 2 years after he started the Upton Family Vineyard. He had spent years at Concannon and Franciscan as a winemaker, and used those skills to oversee Kendall-Jackson's Lokoya winery. His wife, Tracey, recently had Upton's 1998 Merlot grapes vinified by a friend, and hopes to stay in the business. Greg Upton is remembered as kind and friendly, and a gifted winemaker.

Ernest Gallo 1909-2007
Article Abstract:
Ernest Gallo, who built a small winery into a global empire, was considered the father of the modern California wine industry. Along with his brother Julio, he launched the Gallo label, and produced popular brands like Thunderbird, Andre and Carlo Rossi.

Jack Davies, Napa's outsider
Article Abstract:
Jack and Jamie Davies were influential members of Napa Valley's wine community. The pair created the first outstanding California methode champenoise sparkling wine. Jack Davies died at age 74 in Feb, 1998.
