Bugged out over phylloxera: Dry Creek Vineyard's humorous new wine
Article Abstract:
The root louse phylloxera infested the Sonoma County, CA, Cabernet grape vineyard, so the owners decided to make a Rose of Cabernet Sauvignon from the grapes and label it Bug Creek Vineyard. Proceeds from the wines sold will go to the American Vineyard Foundation for phylloxera research.

California wine pioneer dies
Article Abstract:
Mirassou died at 77 of heart complications on Apr 28, 1992. The family-operated Mirassou Vineyards is four generations old and has made wines in California's Santa Clara Valley and Monterey County. Mirassou was a founding member of the California Wine Advisory Board.

Getty brothers' wine venture

Bill and Andrew Getty and two of their friends will open a retail wine shop on Union Street in San Francisco in April. They will call the shop Plump Jack, after the opera written by their father, Gordon Getty. They plan to concentrate on California wines.
