California's 'other' coast: the rugged beautiful South Central Coast region is an adventure for wine drinkers and tourists alike

Article Abstract:

The south central coastal region of California is ideal for vineyards, with traverse mountain ranges, ocean breezes and a mild climate. Grapes for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay do best. A history of the wine region is presented as well as a description of tasting opportunities for tourists.

Schramsberg revisited

Article Abstract:

Schramsberg, a successful Napa Valley, CA, winery, is run by vintners Jamie and Jack Davies, who purchased the Schramsberg property, with ten other investors, for $400,000 in 1965. Schramsberg employs the traditional French fermentation practice to produce their sparkling wines.

Sparkling values

Article Abstract:

Several winemakers are producing California sparkling wines of exceptional value and quality, including Korbel, Roederer Estate, Gloria Ferrer, and Domaine Chandon. Sparkling wines make a fine complement to a meal, and are more reasonably priced than champagnes from France.
