Finnish food prices down 11% after EU accession
Article Abstract:
The Finnish food market has been affected by EU membership, with prices falling since the beginning of 1995 and an increase in size and variation of product choice, according to a study by Ilkka P. Laruila. Prices of flour, beef, fresh fish, margarine and pork have fallen, while there has been no change in the price of milk, ice cream, alcoholic drinks and coffee. Butter, chees and yoghurt prices fell, but some of the price changes are only indirectly connected to EU membership, and others are the result of free competition.
