French accent at Long Island's newest winery

Macari Vineyards & Winery, the latest winery to open in Long Island, NY, hopes to establish a name in New York's booming wine region by capitalizing on its French winemaker and modernistic architecture. Architecture of Macari Vineyards, owned by real estate developer Joseph Macari, features a pleasant tasting room that provides view of the surrounding vineyards. Gilles Martin, a French-born and French-trained winemaker heads production at Macari Vineyards. The winery occupies 340 acres, which include 125 acres of vineyard, at a site formerly occupied by Mattituck Hills winery, which went bankrupt in 1996.
