Fyffes interims on track
Article Abstract:
Dublin fresh produce group Fyffes has reported profits up 10% to ??32.6m in the six months to 30 April before exceptional gains from disposals. This strong profit growth was generated by turnover up from ??914.3m to ??931.5m. Since bananas account for around 30% of sales, the group did well to keep margins so high despite the steep fall in banana prices. Analysts said that Fyffes' strategy of dealing both with dollar banana growers and the protected suppliers to the EU market provided it with a buffer from the problems caused by the ongoing trade battle between the US and the EU. The group has also reduced the share of its turnover which comes from banana sales, so it is less dependent on the development of that dispute.
