Minority shareholders take control of Puleva

Minority shareholders in Puleva of Spain, a dairy group, have taken control of the group following lengthly negotiations, backed by Westdeutsche Landesbank of Germany. Puleva reduced its losses in 1994 but has already had its payments suspended, and the new board of directors has not yet revealed details of how it intends to improve the company's financial situation.

Parmalat improves US sales by 25% with expensive advertising

Parmalat of Italy, a dairy group, reported US sales up 25% helped by major advertising and promotional expenditure, such as free sampling, and money-off coupons. Parmalat specialise in long-life milk which represents just 1% of the market in the US, compared to 85% in France, 70% in western Europe and 55% in central America.

Okregowa Spoldzielnia Mleczarska (OSM), a dairy co-operative, of Poland and Friesland Dairy Foods of Holland and dairy firm, have set up a joint venture to increase product ranges and market products throughout Poland. FDF plans to introduce new products such as flavoured milk and puddings.
