JAPAN: RISE IN COLLAGEN DEMAND
Article Abstract:
Nabisco is the largest United States manufacturer of collagen, and the world collagen market is estimated at about 5,000 tonnes. In Japan, where demand rose from approximately 300 tonnes in 1998 to around 600 tonnes in 1999, it is used in both cosmetics and foods. This rise in demand is due to its use mixed with milk products in functional foods for bone disease prevention, and for skin care functional foods.
