Taking Stock
Article Abstract:
Both the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) have been losing listings as more and more newly emerging companies prefer having their stock traded over-the-counter (OTC). While, at one time, being traded over-the counter instead of through an exchange carried with it a certain stigma, now-a-days many prestigious companies are remaining OTC by choice, and rejecting the strict regulations, paperwork, and higher fees of an exchange. The OTC, which is handled through the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System (NASDAQ) and AMEX have been turning conservative Wall Street upside down with the outright feuding over who is best. While NASDAQ asserts claims of superiority, AMEX counters them with claims of its own. Both are spending money to fight for companies and show these companies that they would be better off listing with them than the competition. No matter what the conclusion to all this competition, one thing is certain - potentially everybody could gain.
