Len Evans, writer and champion of Australian wine, dies at 75

Len Evans, Australia's first regular wine columnist, encouraged Australian winemakers to improve the quality of wine they produced, since he believed that Australian wines could be produced to compete with the best wines in the world. He founded Rothbury Estate in Hunter Valley, which produced Chardonnay and Shiraz wines, and was also the recipient of the Order of the British Empire in 1982 and was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1999.
