Napa's $5.5 million party

The 19th annual Napa Valley Wine Auction raised a record-breaking $5.5 million. The 4-day event featured winery parties, auctions, and tastings. Basketball player Michael Jordan and his wife were in attendance, as was movie star Robin Williams. The proceeds go to regional health care organizations and hospitals.

Bargains few and far between at new Napa barrel auction
Article Abstract:
The Napa Valley Vintners Association aimed to limit its first midwinter barrel auction to wine traders but some consumers and collectors were able to bid for some wines through the wine merchants. A collector won through a merchant the highest case bid, a 1995 blend from Harlan Estate, at $3,500 per case.

Napa barrel auction's high prices out of reach for some bidders

The 1997 midwinter barrel auction saw higher prices for the top California Cabernets, and the trend continued at the Feb 22, 1998, auction. The 1998 auction was held at the Culinary Institute of America in St Helena, CA. Wine prices are given.
