Official USDA board may challenge organics proposal
Article Abstract:
Some industry observers have suggested the proposed US legislation on organics food may lower current organic quality requirements already in operation in several US states. The National Organic Standards Board intend to challenge some of the proposals included in the the US Department of Agriculture's national standards for organic produce. They are opposed at the inclusion of foods fertilized by recycled sewage, irradiated foods and genetically modified foods.

Linda McCartney Foods, a vegetarian food company started by the wife of Sir Paul McCartney, will substitute wheat for soya in its products to make sure they are free of genetically modified (GM) substances. The company was surprised to learn that GM soya was discovered in its vegetarian burgers.
