Winemaker Sean Thackrey's interest lies in underrated and lesser-known grape varieties such as Syrah, petite Sirah and Mourvedre. His successful wines come from these varieties, such as the 1986 Orion and the Sirius which came from Petite irah at Marston Vineyard.

Richard Sanford will plant a new vineyard north of Santa Barbara, CA, in the Santa Ynez Valley. He plans to plant pinot noir and chardonnay grapes on 150 acres of the property. The cost of this plan is estimated at several million dollars.
