Chile, with its strong wine making tradition, continues to lead the way in South American wines, though the best overall wine from the continent comes from Argentina. The editor's choice and highest-rated wine is the 1992 Bodegas Esmeralda Mendoza Agrelo Vineyard Cantena cabernet sauvignon.

South Africa's forbidden fruit

Article Abstract:

The boycott of South African products has lifted, and many people in the US will try Pinotage for the first time. The wine comes in a variety of styles and ageworthiness, but some is very good, and it is inexpensive. Vintages from 1971 are rated.
