Split personality in the Rhone: In 2004, the south excels across the board, while the north shows highs and lows
Article Abstract:
Vintages of France's Rhone Valley wines from 2003 and 2004 are reviewed and compared, and it is observed that the Southern Rhone and the Northern Rhone regions are producing wines distinctly different from each other in terms of style and quality. The Southern Rhone 2004 vintages are pure, racy, mineral- and fruit-based reds when compared to the light-bodied reds of the Northern Rhone 2004 vintages, although the Northern Rhone 2004 whites are of extremely good quality.
