The magnificent 30: Patz & Hall
Article Abstract:
Donald Patz and James Hall started their Napa Valley-based brand in 1988, focusing on Chardonnay and later adding Pinot Noir to their range, particularly that from the Pisoni Vineyard. Hall likes to ferment the wines with about 10 percent to 20 percent whole clusters, which gives added spiciness and can also result in more flavor extraction and structure by lengthening the fermentation.

The magnificent 30: Chasseur
Article Abstract:
Chasseur winemaker and owner Bill Hunter feared the worst during a September heat wave in the 2004 growing season, but was pleasantly surprised when he tasted the wines a month after harvest. Two of the five Chasseur 2004 Pinot Noirs earned 95 points, coming from vineyards west of Sebastopol, Sonoma County, which Hunter believes are slowly revealing their potential.
