Wait no longer, FDA advises McNeil upon approving its sugar-derived sucralose

Article Abstract:

Royal Crown and Veryfine are formulating with sucralose deemed the only low-calorie sweetener made from sugar that received the FDA approval for use in the US. Some beverage applications are included in the approval by the government, with an additive from McNeil Specialty Products Co. being used. RC senior vice president Jeff Spencer maintained sucralose is clearly to bolster the firm in the diet cola category. Veryfine president Sam Rowse expressed pleasure that the wait ended in early April 1998. The firm was in the midst of finalizing its initial diet line and was glad to include sucralose, 600 time sweeter than sugar, as a point of difference.

Spirits keep up through smart segmentation and brand power

Article Abstract:

The spirits and wine category of the beverages industry can still grow through brand power amidst the influences of consumer demographics and behavior in the US. Hiram Walker president Bob Shea stressed that the African-American, Asian-American, and Hispanic-American populations will exhibit increased spending power, and changes in its lifestyle and ethnic composition. The number of spirits distributors has fallen in tandem with the decreased popularity of spirits. This resulted in difficulty in implementing price increases.
