The heat that pounded Burgundy during the summer of 2003 badly affected the Chardonnay crop and hence best 2003 white wines lack the vibrancy and intensity characteristic of a great vintage. Experts recommend that those who can afford the 2003 white wines should savor them while waiting for the wines of 2002, 2001, and 1999 to evolve.
