A growing number of California vintners are turning to solar power for cost savings and a better reputation for environmental stewardship. Shafer Vineyards, Frog's Leap Winery, Rodney Strong Vineyards, Domaine Carneros are some of the famous vineyards that have switched to solar power.

Women forge ahead in California

Some of California's most influential winemakers are women. Research shows that women have a much better sense of smell than men have and a 2003 study from the Wine Market Council found that 60 percent of Americans who consumed wine once or twice a week were women.
