Developmental stages and energy restriction affect cellular oncogene expression in tissues of female rats

Article Abstract:

A study was done on the effects of developmental stages and energy restriction on the cellular oncogene expression in mammary tissues of female rats. Measurement of c-Ha-ras and c-fos RNA transcripts during pregnancy and lactation show that developmental stages and energy restriction affect cellular oncogene mRNA levels with tissue-specific patterns. c-Ha-ras and c-fos levels peaked at nine weeks in rat mammary tissue and estrogen was implicated to be responsible for the surge in the transcript values.

Age, dietary selenium and quantity of 7, 12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene influence the in vivo occurrence of rat mammary adducts

Article Abstract:

A study was done on the effects of age, dietary selenium and quantity of 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) on the in vivo occurrence of rat mammary adducts. It was shown that DMBA-DNA binding increased with age of the rats and decreased with an increase in concentration of administered carcinogen. Furthermore, it was shown that selenium inhibits DMBA metabolism at a dosage of five to 50 mg/kg body weight.
