Evidence for the relationship of calcium to blood pressure
Article Abstract:
Epidemiologic literature of more than 40 studies over 15 years shows that dietary calcium is strongly linked to the maintenance of normal blood pressure and proper intake may reduce hypertension. These studies reveal the inverse relationship between calcium and blood pressure, meeting the Food and Drug Administration's 'significant scientific agreement' standard. Conducted with all population and racial groups, in the US and other countries, the studies used both case-control and cohort analyses as well as experimental trials.

Compression of disability: evidence from the National Long-Term Care Survey
Article Abstract:
Data from the 1982, 1984, and 1989 National Long-Term Care Surveys were used to determine the compression of disability. Results indicate that active life expectations are increasing faster than calculated years of disabled life; and the improvement of persistent health states, shifting the onset of disability to later in life. The improvement of health into later years does not mean projections for service need increases for the aging population should be decreased.

Hyperolfaction and hyperemesis gravidarum: what is the relationship?
Article Abstract:
Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) in pregnant women is probably due to an increased sense of smell which produces an desire for clean surroundings. During pregnancy, the increased production of estrogen increases respiratory tract vascularity thereby increasing olfactory reception. HG is characterized by vomiting and nutritional imbalance which can cause neurological, liver and renal damage. HG is fatal for some women but in most cases the fetus is unaffected.
