Are you (a) depressed or (b) depressed?
Article Abstract:
A professor of psychology at Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania, analyses why, despite the fact that increased choice gives us the appearance that we can create the perfect lifestyle, people, and students in particular, are now more depressed than ever. It is argued that, for students in particular, the increased range of choice that is available is actually counterproductive, adding to stress, uncertainty and anxiety levels, and that restricting the range of options and offering freedom within constraints would actually be more beneficial.
