Nutritional determinants of puberty

Article Abstract:

Severe undernutrition can delay the maturing reproductive process or the onset of puberty. Lack of food, and to a lesser extent, intensive exercise, prevent the formation of reproductive functions. Fortunately, restored good nutrition can reverse the threat of delayed puberty in children and infertility in adulthood. This reversal explains normal reproduction even among chronically malnourished populations. Anorexia nervosa is the exception to this rule, whereby normal hormonal levels may never be achieved even after appropriate weight gain.

Biochemical features of grain legume allergens in humans and animals

Article Abstract:

Some molecules in grain legumes responsible for food allergies have been characterized biochemically. A number of these allergenic molecules share certain similarities, including an ability to withstand degradation by heat, chemicals or enzymes. These molecules may often be immunologically, but not clinically, cross-reactive. The molecules usually appear to be distinct from the legume inhalant allergens. Some young farm animals experience allergic reactions to grain legume allergens.

Underexploited African grain crops: a nutritional resource

Article Abstract:

Developing crop production for native cereals in African can reduce the risk of food shortages. Restructuring lost crops in native areas will help reduce the population's vulnerability to serious food shortages. These crops can also be introduced to similar geographical areas of the world where populations are nutritionally challenged.
