Skeletal functions of vitamin K-dependent proteins: not just for clotting anymore
Article Abstract:
Vitamin K apparently plays a significant role in skeletal formation through vitamin-K dependent proteins such as osteocalcin and matrix Gla protein (MGP). Until recently, the function of vitamin K in the body was considered limited to coagulation of blood. Osteocalcin seems to act as a regulator, limiting bone growth. MGP seems to inhibit calcification in arteries and cartilage. Other vitamin K-dependent proteins and their various roles are being explored.

Retinoyl beta-glucuronide: a biologically active form of vitamin A
Article Abstract:
Use of retinoyl beta-glucuronide may replace use of retinoic acid as a safer and equally effective treatment of skin disorders and some cancers. Retinoyl beta-glucuronide is a metabolite of vitamin A and a by-product of retinoic acid. It is as biologically active as retinoic acid without the toxicity. Unlike retinoic acid or retinoyl beta-glucose, retinoyl beta-glucuronide has not been shown to be teratogenic.
