Religious versus humanist anthropology
Article Abstract:
Humanist theories in anthropology have limitations as have notions of progress in a context of rejecting God. A new approach to anthropology is emerging which helps us understand humans by using sources from outside humans, and which does not view progress in linear terms. This new approach has to escape limits that come from human-centeredness and too great an emphasis on rationality. God has been seen as an obstacle to human freedom, but too great an emphasis on human roles in transgressing boundaries means that humans are being deified.

Voices in the wilderness
Article Abstract:
A description of literature on Antarctic expeditions by authors like Adrian Caesar and Richard McElrea and by expedition leaders like Shackleton and Mawson is presented. Both Shackleton's and Mawson's expeditions were self-consciously literary in their conception, their leaders fully aware of the power of the written word.

The biochemistry of oligofructose, a nondigestible fiber: an approach to calculate its caloric value
Article Abstract:
Oligofructose, a product of inulin, occurs naturally in a variety of foods. The mean daily consumption of oligofructose and inulin by North Americans is between 2-8 g per person per day. The caloric value of a fructosyl unit of oligofructose is 25-35% of a digested molecule of hexose, or approximately one kca/g.
