Article Abstract:
The 1996 Hardwood Symposium focused on research goals and technologies to improve utilization and quality of hardwood lumber. The National Hardwood Lumber Assn and nine other trade groups' research objectives for Canadian and US hardwoods refer to the lumber manufacturing process and new markets for low-grade lumber. The hardwood lumber research program also focuses on new technologies such as development of electronic color sorting systems for panel parts that are edge-glued and use of industrial-type CT scanners to increase the accuracy of lumber internal defect detection.
