Capacity to rise for engineered panels, lumber
Article Abstract:
Capacity for engineered wood products, including oriented strand board and laminated strand lumber, will rise due to announced expansions by several lumber companies. Louisiana-Pacific Corp will add new facilities at its Roxboro, NC, and Jasper, TX, plants, increasing capacity by a total of 600 million sq ft. The oriented strand board company will also expand in Mexico. Other companies that plan expansions include International Paper Co, Potlatch Corp, Trus Joist MacMillan LP and several others.

US leads in wood-based panel output as global volume rises to new record

Global volumes of wood-based panels increased significantly in 1993. Global wood panel production increased from $12 bil in 1992 to $13 bil in 1993. China led industry growth in panel and veneer production while the US, Japan and Indonesia maintained prominence in plywood production. Global wood-based panel production totaled 133,049,000 cu m in 1993.

Argentine panel firms add ply, MDF capacity

Forestadora Tapebicua and Masisa Argentina are planning to further boost their manufacturing capacity of wood products. Masisa Argentina is planning to expand its particleboard and medium-density fiberboard production at Concordia mill. Forestadora Tapebicua produces about 30,000 cubic meters of plywood panels at its Virasoro mill annually.
