Leaner AF&PA mirrors downsizing by members

Article Abstract:

The American Forest and Paper Assn has downsized its structure in order to simplify its organization. The full-time staff positions have been decreased to 137 from 187 and the annual budget has decreased to $26.4 million from $36.4 million. The three major items the organization will focus on during 1996 will be public policy at all government levels, the formulation of a legal forum and the modernization and centralization of organization statistics.

Mills turn log-yard waste into valuable products

Article Abstract:

Sawmills and panel plants in the northwestern US have been testing a system for handling log-yard debris. The system, developed by Monroe, WA's Northwest Organic Products consists primarily of a trommel screen and a Sorting Technology Inc sand separator. The trommel removes fines, while the STI machine separates the remaining debris into piles of wood and rock.
