Anti-loggers hit trails in United States, Canada
Article Abstract:
Environmental groups such as Greenpeace and the Sierra Club are leading international boycott of forest products from Canada and timber logging in US national forests. Anti-loggers are stating that commercial logging in national forests significantly impacts wildlife habitat. The Sierra Club suggests that national forests need to be used for recreational purposes only because public recreation offers a more significant source of income to the domestic economy than the federal timber sale program.

Public's 'green' attitudes force forest-sector changes
Article Abstract:
Speakers at the Forest Products Society's 1995 meeting discussed the impact that environmental attitudes and other factors are having on world timber supplies. Plum Creek Timber president Rick Holley said that the company employs consultant Jerry Franklin to advise it on how to manage its forests in both environmentally and economically sound ways. Holley stressed that science, not emotion, should drive forestry policy.
