ADB sets forestry policy for Asia-Pacific region
Article Abstract:
Asian Development Bank (ADB) directors have established a three factor policy to be used in determining financing for forestry projects in the Asia-Pacific region. Finances will be based on considerations of a forest's biodiversity, water and soil; how public and private organizations will help implement policies, and how to sustain harvests and produce renewable resources. ADB officials hope to prevent deforestation by encouraging the production of wood substitutes and alternatives for the use of wood for fuel.
