Particleboard plants planned in Kansas, Brazil
Article Abstract:
Plants in Brazil and Kansas will produce additional particleboard for international markets. Harvest Board International (HBI) plans to have three straw-board mills in Kansas, one of which is already under construction. On an annual basis, one plant will convert wheat straw into 80 million square feet of panels. After its plants are operational, HBI will be the largest producer of agrifiber particleboard in North America. Additionally, Duratex SA plans to build two plants in Brazil. Other construction plans are discussed.

Reduce drying degrade to raise dollar return
Article Abstract:
Maintaining lumber drying standards can help producers reduce losses due to degradation. Lumber degrades are caused by drying too fast, drying too slowly, improper stacking, errors in moisture content, natural defects and equipment problems. Because log costs have increased to 75% of manufacturing casts, lumber degrade can effectively reduce a sawmill's profits. By following moisture content control standards producers can reduce the amount of degrade and improve their profits.
