Plum Creek Timber Co hopes to improve lumber and plywood production at its four Flathead Valley mills in Montana through a multi-million dollar capital improvement and integration program. Details concerning production improvements at Plum Creek's Evergreen and Columbia Falls plywood plants are presented. Annual capacity at Evergreen Plywood has risen from 90 million ft in 1985 to 162 million ft in 1995, according to Evergreen Plywood Mgr Ray Gates.

Plum Creek updates panel, lumber plants in Montana
Article Abstract:
Kalispell, MT-based Plum Creek Timber Co invested a major amount of its $100 million in capital improvements in its two plywood facilities and four sawmills from 1989-95. The capital investments have improved fiber recovery at the six facilities. The mill's largest customer is retailer, PayLess. The firm can only manufacture a specific amount of lumber but Plum Creek's customers need more of its high-quality items.

Adding value: Chilean mills get full value from forests
Article Abstract:
The Rio Itata group are successful mill operations located in Coelemu, Chile. The operation is made up of three companies Forestal Quilpolemu, Maderera Rio Itata and Industrias Rio Itata. Value-added products, such as glued panels, finger joint stock and mouldings, account for a significant portion of the group's exports. Rio Itata began producing veneer in Nov 1994 and particleboard in Feb 1995.
